London Borough of Newham, UK - Budget Simulator

Overview

The London Borough of Newham in England were facing a budget shortfall of £45 million across the next 3 years and needed to reduce some services in order to balance the books.

To ensure that the councils focus is on the right areas LB of Newham used a budget Simulator to involve the public in prioritising services in which they were given the option to increase and decrease services to balance the books.

The public were given the opportunity to learn first hand the difficult decisions that need to be made in order to provide adequate cover to vital services whilst making sure they don't overspend. The results will be used to inform the final decision for the upcoming 3 year budget up until 2022/23.
